It may be supported by the snd_hda driver, but I'm not sure. You can try adding

snd_hda_load="YES"

to /boot/loader.conf and see if it is detected on the next reboot. The driver should be able to be loaded manually at run time, but I at least have never gotten working sound that way.... (If you want to load at run time, use the kldload program as root; to kldload snd_hda)

I don't think that device is supposed; I may be wrong though (Curious, whats the name of the linux driver?). CMedia CMI8338/CMI8738 are supported by the snd_cmi driver, but I don't know of any other CMedia gizmoes that are.

As to using the Linux driver, not possible at this point - FreeBSD doesn't use the Linux kernel, and uses a modified version of the Open Sound System (OSS) rather then Advanced Linux Sound Architecture (ALSA). The linux compatiblity in *BSD is focused on application level interfaces, rather then kernel compat.
