Default install to 2nd hard drive
I installed PC-BSD to my second harddrive (a primary partition) and it is not detected on startup. I installed the PC-BSD boot loader as well.

I assume there is another operating system on the first harddisk installed. The pc-bsd installer wrote the bootsec to the second disk so it does not affect the bootloader from the first hd. Switch of the cable from the first harddisk and check if pc-bsd will start.

Adjusting the BIOS boot order would be easier then swapping the cable. If the first drives got a suitable boot loader, could even rig it to chain into disk 2.

And if you installed the boot loader on the second drive you should be able to just slect that drive at boot time and boot from it. I think pretty much all modern BIOSs these days allow you to pull up a list of bootable devices with the press of a key when you first turn it on.
