Default Freeagent external drive (firewire) not recognized
Hi,

I'm running 7.0.1.
My FreeAgent external harddisk, connected via firewire 400, is not recognized.
Dmesg when plugged in :
...
fwohci0: BUS reset
fwohci0: node_id=0xc800ffc0, gen=3, CYCLEMASTER mode
firewire0: 1 nodes, maxhop <= 0, cable IRM = 0 (me)
firewire0: bus manager 0 (me)
fwohci0: BUS reset
fwohci0: node_id=0xc800ffc0, gen=4, CYCLEMASTER mode
firewire0: 1 nodes, maxhop <= 0, cable IRM = 0 (me)
firewire0: bus manager 0 (me)
fwohci0: BUS reset
fwohci0: node_id=0x8800ffc0, gen=5, non CYCLEMASTER mode
firewire0: 2 nodes, maxhop <= 1, cable IRM = 0 (me)
firewire0: root node is not cycle master capable
firewire0: bus manager 0 (me)
fwohci0: too many cycle lost, no cycle master presents?
root@bsdaddict#

Is the kernel missing something or do I need to modify something else somewhere ?

Thanks for any hints here.

Ok,

Reply to my own post : plugging the drive in after booting shows it in dmesg :
...
fwohci0: BUS reset
fwohci0: node_id=0x8800ffc0, gen=2, non CYCLEMASTER mode
firewire0: 2 nodes, maxhop <= 1, cable IRM = 0 (me)
firewire0: root node is not cycle master capable
firewire0: bus manager 0 (me)
fwohci0: too many cycle lost, no cycle master presents?

But still no sign of it in Dolphin. A manual mount gives this :

root@bsdaddict# mount -t ntfs /dev/da4s1 /media
cat: /tmp/.fuse-mnts: No such file or directory

error: libhal_device_set_property: org.freedesktop.Hal.NoSuchDevice: No device with id /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/volume_part1_size_750153729024
root@bsdaddict# rm: /media/.hal-mtab-lock: No such file or directory
root@bsdaddict#

But I can access the drive without any problems.

Hi buddy,
your disk is not displayed in the dolphin because of its label. The label contains space and KDE4, I guess, is not able to handle this. So I suggest you to rename it in windows in the disk manager and you'll stand a step further and see that you'll won't be able to mount it automatically by simply clicking the icon in dophin. But that's how the life goes. :-) I had a similar problem. Regards, Jiri

MadonnaMia,

You were right ! After modifying the name in windowz (leaving out the space), it now shows up in Dolphin. But as you predicted, there is no automatic mount when I select the drive... Again, one step closer to solving the enigma Thanks for the help/tip !
