Default Changing hostname
I have dipped into /etc/hosts and /etc/rc.conf to change the hostname from the default. It has worked but I think there is probably a better way of doing it as it takes about 20 seconds to resolve up on boot. Here are the changes in the /etc/hosts file:
Code:
#::1			localhost localhost.localdomain pcbsd.localhost pcbsd
#127.0.0.1		localhost localhost.localdomain pcbsd.localhost pcbsd
::1			localhost localhost.localdomain avocet.localhost pcbsd
127.0.0.1		localhost localhost.localdomain avocet.localhost pcbsd

127.0.0.1		avocet.pcbsd.net avocet
Any tips?

Alan

The associations you have in /etc/hosts only defines a mapping from your loopback to the indicated hostnames for IPv4 & IPv6, not to any other address of interest.

What are you trying to resolve?

Default Re: Changing hostname
I am simply looking to set my own hostname so that I can maintain consistency within my home network. It actually is a trivial issue as I currently do not use the network for anything, but each of my linux boxes have a hostname and I just wanted to do the same thing with the PC-BSD box. If it means waiting an extra 20 seconds for the box to boot I will just return to the default settings but I am sure that this is not the case, just my lack of knowledge of how to set it up properly.
