I'd reckon your right.

When the linksys card is plugged in, what is the output of 'pciconf -lv' when run from a root shell session in konsole?

That is broadcom chip, supported via BSD bwi(4) driver:
http://www.openbsd.org/cgi-bin/man.cgi? ... &sektion=4

But maybe you can try NDIS with that card, until bwi appears on FreeBSD.

Don't reckonize it; as far as ndis goes, you should check here, it's basically like ndiswrapper but works on bsd.

I think your best bet is switching to OpenBSD if you want to use that particular type of WiFi card. Broadcom have explicitly expressed strong dissatisfaction with the fact that OpenBSD people have written the driver
for that hardware. Broadcom have on many occasions explicitly stated that expect people who want to use their hardware to run Windows.
I think that FreeBSD developers have taken the clue and that FreeBSD will probably never support it.

I happen to be OpenBSD user and I happen to have that particular PCCard. It works like a charm on OpenBSD but is the last peace of hardware I have
that will have broadcom chip-set :wink:

Default Re: WIFI pcmcia card not working
From pciconf output it is actually marvell card, supported by malo(4) on FreeBSD 8.0, and 7 STABLE.

So, from where you get that it's name is LINKSYS WPC54G ver.3?

Something is seriously wrong.

bwi driver works on FreeBSD (in same way as on OpenBSD and DragonFlyBSD), but nobody of developers care to comitt it.

[EDIT]

Ah, I see, because you send pciconf output of marvell card, but not from broadcom one.
You can wait for PCBSD 7.1, which will work with marvell card.
But you can try NDIS with both: marvell and broadcom one.

Read malo man page:

http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?quer ... ormat=html

put following lines in /boot/loader.conf :

Code:
if_malo_load="YES"
wlan_load="YES"
firmware_load="YES"
malofw_load="YES"
and fetch http://weongyo.org/project/malo/malo-fi ... 1.4.tar.gz
after that, as root type:

Code:
# pkg_add malo-firmware-1.4.tar.gz
and reboot.

Default WIFI pcmcia card not working
richardpl,

I am new to pc-bsd and trying to get my laptop wifi going.

Did what you said above

Code:

if_malo_load="YES"
wlan_load="YES"
firmware_load="YES"
malofw_load="YES"

then downloaded the file http://weongyo.org/project/malo/malo-fi ... 1.4.tar.gz to my home folder.

But when i type in pkg_add malo-firmware-1.4.tar.gz i get an error saying:

tar: +CONTENTS: Not found in archive
tar: Error exit delayed from previous errors.
pkg_add: tar extract of /usr/home/derek/malo-firmware-1.4.tar.gz failed
pkg_add: unable to extract table of contents file from `/usr/home/derek/malo-firmware-1.4.tar.gz` - not a package?

Can you help me out please ?

Derek.
