my old screen

my old screen is 640X480
on my computer windowsXP and fedora ver9 work very well
problem:
when install pc-bsd to try it instead of windows
i can not see anything on my screen
why ???
my old screen is 640 x 480
in windows there are solve to that problem is safe mode then change the screen resolution
in fedora linux when first boot type : linux lowres=640x480
are there any solve to that problem in pc-bsd
it is the first time to know pc-bsd
please help in sample english

Well in my case, I'm on code-vacation :-P


I would suggest getting into a text console and editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf accordingly, then launching the installer; assuming it doens't overwrite the file...

step by step , how can you write in Xorg.conf by vim in text mode ?? i can not use vim I use gvim for example in Xwindow.(GUI) :idea:

when you boot from first CD the option is:
1- boot pc-BsD default
2- with AcPF
3- safe mode
4- single user
5- verbose
6- emergency
7- Vesa
8- ZFS
9- Escape to loader prompt

this is nine options Where TEXT MODE here
i try looking for it but can not see it :shock:

Go for the emergency shell.


I see PC-BSD 7 has added Vim to the installation, the install CD however might not have it installed. If the command 'vim' fails, try using 'vi', vi on BSD is a rewrite of the classic vi, but if you know how to use vim, it won't be hard to use.

# vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

in the first i do not know how can use vi but read some sites about vi or vim then >
reboot my computer > 6 option emergency > tools>system utility > Drop to emergency shell
# pcbsd vim
command not found
# pcbsd vi
yes >>>>>>>>> command is found :mrgreen:
i delete some lines from xorg.conf that lines >>SubSection ....that indicate monitor 1087x760 like that and replace one 640x480
and save the file >>>Ok

Now finished from installation pcbsd
when restart my computer at the first time to run a new operating system
the system give that :
cannot execute "/usr/local/kde4/libexec/kdm-bin_config"
cannot run config reader
I cannot understand what the meaning of that >>
please help :wink:
