Default How to Update PCBSD
If I want to update the world, which is the correct method. Should I csup the src myself, or should I use the GUI. Will rebuilding the world break the "PCBSD customization".

The best way to keep updated the system is to stick with official updates from the devs (and hope they release minor updates more often).

Will you break some stuff if you do that by hand, maybe, maybe not.

IMHO, if you want to be a full time system administrator of your computer, go ahead and grab vanilla FreeBSD.

The GUI *should* be configured to only fetch system source for the current branch (e.g. 6.3 stable on PC-BSD 1.5.1)

this thread may be of interest to you, but graedus is quite right!
