Default Advocacy for PC-BSD (aka FreeBSD anyway pre-built for Home)
Hey all,

pcbsd is based on freebsd, basically PC-Desktop-wise, and graphics,... I gotta admit pc-bsd is the cats meow for "new" Home (non-server)desktop installs'.
you want a FreeBSD server ?, well this is the wrong place, and thread.

anyway, I installed FreeBSD-7.0 Stable, then I did the make install xorg;make install kde3,....blah, blah, blah.

3-freakin' days later I finally can now type "startx" and of course, its all there.-but geeeeeezus thats' a long thing to do.

-My PC is an Intel (Duo-core) Nvidia 256Meg 6800,...,and yes I have a 5-Meg Internet conection, but still with PC-BSD (including patches) well I also basically end up with everything I like in it tooooo!

PC-BSD Install Time-taken: 1 hour maximum. !!! -ahhhhh thats better.

Now that is (partially) what PC-BSD should be all about. !

(but I guess, you guys/gals already know this

-ok sooo, I just wanna say thanks to PC-BSD for this, keep up the good work guys/gals.

cheers.

Rick.

You know the install CD's do include X.

Although I've only done it once (with Gnome) there are usually binary packages available for most of the DE's, it'll just take a few hours to download them all (at least for KDE/Gnome).

What I like about PC-BSD is a working KDE desktop in short order ;-)

Thanks Gerard! I think it's high time to announce spreadbsd.org. It may need some polish and content but it's ready to roll!

We need graphic design and content authors stat! If you like the FreeBSD and/or PC-BSD projects, checkout spreadbsd.org and contribute!

thanks,
-matt

...maybe its because my PC(desktop) is finally perfectly aligned(hardware-wise) with what PCBSD 7 (aka FreeBSD 7) can deliver, that this PCBSD 7.0 Fibonacci is so seamlessly close to the Tiger edition I'm waiting for that well,... I'd just like to CONGRATS all you PCBSD workers' that made this all possible.
There is now, afterall, a Windows Desktop replacement, AND it also doesn't have to be Linux !!!
-It installs faster then any other Unix wannabe distro out there (although OpenSolaris is an interesting pedigree on its own).
Anyway, kudos to the PCBSD team, and if you wanna spread that ?, well this forum is good enough for me, but if you want to then cutnpaste and stick it on your "spreadbsd.org" thingy.

once again, I ain't got much but I'm ordering the new PCBSD 7.0 CD/DVD's, so just put that liitle bit 'o money where it belongs, for all of us folks.

cheers
