Default Switch from ubuntu to BSD - mouse/Framerate troubles
I've been interested in BSD for quite some time now... I tried FreeBSD a long time ago, but I was noobish and couldn't configure X correctly.

Now that I know more about unix based systems, i've installed PCBSD and I found the entire process very slick.

I've only got one problem so far tho, my framerate seems to drop drastically at random intervals for no reason. the mouse will stop responding for just a second or so every 5 seconds, and nothing on the screen will move until that time is up.

This is rather off-putting and I'm wondering what could cause such a problem.

System specs:
160 gb hard drive
1 gig ram
Nvidia 7700 ls graphics card
intel core 2 duo processor

I simply selected the *use entire disk* function of the installer and also chose Firefox, open office, card games, development kit, ports, and source for the *disk 2* install options.

running screen resolution 1600x1080 and using the nv graphics drivers.

actually, I think it may be a video card problem, the screensaver also freezes periodically. and you can see it's on a regular pulse, about once every 1.5 seconds.

EDIT: I've tried disabling compiz and the problem still persists.

EDIT2: It seems as if the system is actually freezing completely once every 1.5 seconds. I looked at the system monitor and just idling and doing nothing, im taking up a constant 33% cpu, which is a substantial amount more than the normal idle cpu I would get on linux (0-2%)

I'm going to try to reinstall PCBSD right now, to see if something was buggered up on install.

After Reinstalling, I get the same problem, I'm at the stage where you configure your graphics settings, and it's still going on. whenever I change the settings, I see a terminal where the message

acpi_perf0: Px transition to 1867 failed
acpi_perf0: set freq failed, err 6

appears once every 1.5 seconds.

Look to see what process is using up resources.

Oops, sorry, I didn't catch your link to the thread before I posted. I will try and read a bit more carefully next time. :-)
