Paperweight in Unix but could be use with the Brother proprietary driver
in Linux although it seems like a cheap Win printer.

Of course. In Linux (Mandriva) it works very fine ... :wink:

Then you might want to ask them to release there proprietary driver as open source so it can be included with the usual driver packages or release a port of there own creation for FreeBSD ;-)

It depends on Linux kernel. It is "open source" with hidden binary blobs which are Linux kernel specific. I tried to port it for OpenBSD. What could you expect from PC hackers. Whole Linux camp is worse than the M$ when it comes to drivers and standards. Just recall what they are doing with ALSA crappy standard. Bill Gates is baby comparing to that madness. Thanks God most important things in computer science have been fonded by U. S. government money and will remain FREE for everyone. Lets mention some
of most important BSD Unix, TCP/IP protocol, and X window system.
