Setting up Urxvt (which ~/.* to use?)

Hi all --

I've been tinkering with Urxvt and generally like it. I'd like to try configuring it a bit further but I'm not sure where to put its config information. Looking around the web, some sites are suggesting .Xresources. I've tried adding .Xresources, but it doesn't appear that Urxvt is reading it.

So, maybe Urxvt settings can go in another file... but which one? I have the following:

.Xresources
.config/
.cshrc
.profile
.shrc
.xprofile
.zshrc

There are others, too , but those seem to be the ones germane to the to the question. I'd be using Zsh with Urxvt, so is .zshrc the correct file, or is it more correct to have a separate config file for a terminal emulator?

I personally have never used it but it looks like a good solution for those seeking unicode support. Have you checked out the Man Page. Specifically the section labeled Resources


P.S. This may be an important factor to why the changes have not taken.

You can set and change the resources using X11 tools like xrdb. Many distribution do also load settings from the ~/.Xresources file when X starts. urxvt will consult the following files/resources in order, with later settings overwriting earlier ones:

So you may need to restart your X session before changes take hold. Again, never used it just some suggestions. Hope they work

man urxvt

from lxterminal, not urxvt.
