Default Chinese input setup incomplete?
Regarding Chinese input:

After both base-l10N and KDE-l10N are installed and 'Force IBUS input' is also enabled (boxes checked in their respective system manager locations), it seems that further effort is required in PC-BSD v9.0 to fully enable this-
  1. create a file ~/.xinitrc ;
  2. add two lines (export XMODIFIERS='@im=ibus' and export GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus

If the edit to the .xinitrc file can be verified as a requirement to enable Chinese input (ie, somehow this is actually missed by the automation in v9.0) then I can add it to an errata note for the appropriate page.

Can it also be verified whether similar action is required for v9.1 to enable Chinese Input? This should be something that is already covered within a settings panel somewhere, but if it is not or the function is broken, then it needs to be fixed or documented as a needed step in the handbook for v9.1.

Thanks for all your time folks!

We already enable those settings here:

/usr/local/share/pcbsd/xstartup/enable-ibus.sh

You can force it enabled by going to Control Panel -> System Manager ->
Misc -> Enable IBUS

Does that work?

Unfortunately I do not know. According to the person on IRC, who I told those initial steps (including base-l10n etc) with v9.0 he discovered that the .xinitrc edit was needed, and told me what he did. I posted both here for verification by those who can. If I tripped (as a breaker) those things in my own system I believe I would be lost (assuming success).
