Talking Wireless on PC-BSD sorted
I thought I'd just share my experience of setting up wireless on PC-BSD 9.0. I originally had a wired connection but due to the position of the phone socket I had a 10 metre ethernet cable winding round my living room. So after having used my wife's laptop and easily getting wireless setup on my son's Lubuntu system I thought I'd give it a go.

I dropped into a local 'puter shop and saw a load of TP-Link wireless cards. The shopkeeper was kind enough to find out the chipset when asked. Back home I went to consult the FreeBSD handbook and saw that all atheros chips should work. So back to the shop with my beer tokens and I exchanged them for a TP-Link TL-WN781ND.

Back at home again I eagerly plugged the card into the m'board and switched on. Looking through the dmesg I saw to my delight that the card was there. Next I went back to the FreeBSD handbook and started to follow the instructions. I got the card to scan and it found my network (all good so far).

Next I tried to bring the wireless network up and to my dismay the commands were not recognised. Thoughts of "pkg_add -r" were flowing through my head and at the same time I was thinking that this was going to take a while.

Then under a spell of inspiration I remembered the PC-BSD control panel. So I brought that up, went to networking. There was my new card and within a few clicks I was packing away my 10 metre ethernet cable. What a breeze.
