Default 9.1-RC1 live X server bombs on 2004 PC
PCBSD9.1-RC1-x86-DVD.iso (checksum OK)
HP Pavilion a510n
BIOS firmware 3.15
1 GB RAM
emachines monitor, back stickers -
Product No. E15T3r
Model 568
Mfg. Date November 2004

Vendor Tower
Vendor Monitor

Live Linux CDs/DVDs boot straight into X without problems. I've tested several. PC-BSD 9.1-RC1 gets to the laboratory beaker splash. It displays nicely, full-screen. The fireball logo box overlay shows. The mouse arrow cursor looks fine. Then X bails. Console shows repeated "Failed to read: ..." notices.

Failed to read: session.screen0.clientMenu.usePixmap
Setting default value
Failed to read: session.screen0.maxIgnoreIncrement
Setting default value
[etc. etc.]
IO: fatal IO error 35 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server ":0" after 3431 requests (3431 known processed) with 0 events remaining.
xauth: (argv):1: bad display name "pcbsd:0" in "remove" command
Installation failed! Press any key to drop to shell or type 'reboot' to restart the system

BSD hardware support should be full for this old rig. The unit lives far from me; deep testing isn't feasible. I can do simple requests, perhaps. Tell me specific BSD commands in terminal. I could copy outputs to a USB stick and then relay here. Assume so in your instructions.

I didn't try fancy boot options, just menu choices. Both default and VESA menu choices failed identically.

Thank you, PC-BSD.

After it bombs, can you tail the /var/log/Xorg.0.log file? That may
contain some more clues to why it fails. If you could send over that
full file, that would be appreciated.

Default Solve My Forum Pain
I have the whole /var/log folder for you, compressed and ready to upload here, but the forum is a pain. I read the FAQ but no dice with that advice. Forum won't upload a 12KiB attachment or even a 1-byte attachment.

UPDATE - So trying inline, preview post sure enough tells me:
"The text that you have entered is too long (59563 characters). Please shorten it to 10000 characters long."

This forum is more painful than the bug. Do you have a website where I can FTP the thing to you and you can link it here for others? Thanks
