Default Audio Output glitchy/white noisy
Just the other day I installed PC-BSD 9.1-BETA1 on my Sony Vaio FSN-115S, equipped with a Realtek ACL260 on-board audio unit.

After some initial hassles--no installed audio devices showing up--, which I remedied by adding some hints to loader (see below)

Code:
hint.hdac.0.cad0.nid15.config="as=1 seq=0"
hint.hdac.0.cad0.nid16.config="as=1 seq=15"
hint.hdac.0.cad0.nid18.config="as=2 seq=0"
hint.hdac.0.cad0.nid20.config="as=2 seq=1"
I'm now facing a different challenge: glitchy audio output, heavily overlaid by white noise, not every time I'm starting up the notebook, more of an intermittently nature, random appearance so to speak, which is kind of annoying.

Below some information on my system.

Code:
uname -a

One thing I forgot to mention:

Code:
=> cat /dev/sndstat
reeBSD Audio Driver (newpcm: 32bit 2009061500/i386)
Installed devices:
pcm0: <Realtek ALC260 (Analog 2.0+HP/0ch)> (play/rec) default
What I've found out so far, 'soft' rebooting the machine will inevitably lead to the glitchy/white noise audio overlay after starting up again.

Performing a 'hard' reboot (ie. power off, wait a few seconds, fire up again), obviously puts the hardware into a state where it performs its duty just as intended, no glitches, no white noise.

Interesting observation that is, as with other OSes (eg. Linux, Windows) this never ever has happened.
