Linux Jails

At the moment I believe Debian and Gentoo Linux jails are supported, will other Linux distributions be supported? Or is there an easy way to set up a Linux jail that isn't officially supported? A lot of Linux software is designed to work with Red Hat/CentOS and I think it makes sense to target that popular server platform to gain support for things like cPanel.

At the moment those are the two distros I have scripts setup to do an
install of. I would like to add others as well, and the good news is
that the community can help with that

You'll notice that the warden GUI lets you pick a Linux install script.
These are just simple shell-scripts which do the work of fetching the
Linux distro, and extracting it into a directory (the jail). Where I
could use some help is from users of those particular distros to assist
in writing scripts which do that for the distro of their choice. CentOS
would be a good candidate, as well as others I'm sure. Once you get a
script which works, send it in and I'll commit it for everybody to use

Linux jail looks as great feature and althought atm I use Archlinux, I'd like to see support for Ubuntu 'cause it provides nice support for those few apps we miss in Free(PC)BSD...

However, I promise to put PCBSD (probably RC2 due to need for legacy ATI support - both machines use Radeon) and hopefully, this time, being able to switch fully to PCBSD.

Ubuntu might be hard to push. I think that the installation requires access to a kfreebsd repository.

I was wondering if there are any plans to enable a user to install a linux distro from an ISO file into a linux jail? This would make it much more convenient to deal with dedicated distros such as the Elastix Asterisk distribution, as an example.

I would like to male a script to install the Slackware distribution from the Linux Jail.

To do so, can you provide me with information on the installation scripts to understand how it works? What process execute the installation scripts and what are the arguments (whith it description) it news to make the installation.

Sure! The scripts are just standard shell, but a couple of variables are
passed that you can use:

$1 = The Jail Directory we are installing to, this will be where to
extract your linux files
$2 = The IP address of the jail we are creating
$3 = The meta-directory of the jail, where we store settings and such

The meta-directory is key, since there you can create these files:

jail-stop = Stop command for inside jail
jail-start = Jail start command

If you take a look at /usr/local/share/warden/linux-installs/ you'll see
a few examples of scripts we already use.

If you get it working, post it here and we can include it in the next
warden update!
