Default Ratpoison
Now that I understand the way PCBSD is put together a little bit better than I did before, I think that I was in error when I requested that Ratpoison be added to the Appcafe. Instead, it probably belongs in the "Unsupported Desktops" section of "System Packages." So, would it be possible to have it included there?

You can install it from ports.

Code:
# cd /usr/ports/x11-wm/ratpoison/ && make install distclean
or

Code:
# pkg_add -r ratpoison

I suggest to install from ports and enable support for GDM:

Code:
# make config
Code:
GDM_SUPPORT=on

I have it installed from packages, with a custom GDM entry, but I thought it warranted inclusion regardless

I'll have to look into E17 again. I think the issue originally was that
we couldn't find any user-settable configuration options, and having to
read through a source file to figure it out seems so "primitive" :P At
bare minimum we can include it though, and leave it up to the end user
to figure out the configuration files / options. Ideally this would be
on their documentation wiki, but it looks rather incomplete.
