Code:
[chris@pcbsd64] ~% hostname
pcbsd64
[chris@pcbsd64] ~% vi -r
vi: no files to recover.
The host name agrees with what's in /etc/rc.conf, but sendmail doesn't like it, thus the invalid host name sleeping for retry error.

http://forums.freebsd.org/showthread.php?t=323

After clearing out /var/tmp/vi.recover/ there is no message about recovering vi sessions that sendmail wanted to deliver.

Ahhh, interesting. That's a new one for me.

I have tried Kris' suggestion and my mouse hasn't died yet.

Code:
[chris@pcbsd64] ~% cat /var/log/Xorhasn'tg.0.log | grep -e mouse
[ 1533.586] (WW) Hotplugging is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or 'vmmouse' will be disabled.
[  1535.583] (==) NVIDIA(0): Silken mouse enabled
[ 1536.465] (II) LoadModule: "mouse"
[ 1536.466] (II) Loading /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/input/mouse_drv.so
[ 1536.467] (II) Module mouse: vendor="X.Org Foundation"
[ 1536.468] (II) Using input driver 'mouse' for 'USB Optical Mouse'
[ 1536.468] (II) Loading /usr/local/lib/xorg/modules/input/mouse_drv.so
[ 1536.468] (**) Option "Device" "/dev/sysmouse"
I notice the keyboard isn't listed here, even though it is plugged into a usb port.

^ As I thought, the mouse dying had something to do with Xorg trying to load the "mouse" driver for both the mouse and the keyboard; but Kris had the actual solution
