Default Firefox as default web browser
Is there a reason why Firefox is not installed as the default web browser?

There isn't a default web browser, unless one comes with the window manager (e.g. konqueror comes with KDE). This is to allow the user to install their web browser of choice using AppCafe.

I agree but I just find that Epiphany (Gnome) is a poor web browser. Why not go strait to firefox on default install.

We should do a web browser poll to see if most people are using firefox!

I prefer to leave this in the AppCafe. The problem with shipping a
firefox / chrome / opera on the install DVD's, is that it's outdated
about a week after we mint the ISO's. That means at first boot the user
is going to get pinged to do updates on these browsers, which they may
have not even wanted anyway.

There's also a lot of divergence when it comes to browser choice. I know that if a distro comes packed with Firefox, then the first thing I do is uninstall it and install Conkeror and/or Opera

Yeah, the user might uninstall Firefox, but it's still a very popular and extensible browser. Konqueror has poor compatibility. Most of the pages that I visit look terrible in it. I haven't had much luck with Opera, either. It seems to take forever to load pages. I've tried dozens of browsers and I keep coming back to Firefox. Yeah, it's a little resource-intensive, but it's a small price to pay.

Anyway, I think that the desktop environments that come with PC-BSD should use their browser of choice (Midori, Konqueror, Epiphany.) Firefox could be included on the install disc as an extra. That's how I'd do it, anyway.
