If it matters, GhostBSD 9.1 RC2 does the same thing. It appears that it may go all the way back to FreeBSD 9.1

Anyone good at reporting bugs to FreeBSD? I feel it's right to report this to the FreeBSD people.

If you wait 10-15 seconds, does the mouse then become available? I see that on a number of systems here, where the USB mouse isn't detected until devd finishes up launching.

During bootup, there is - briefly - a working mouse cursor on a text screen. After this screen there is a delay. After this delay, the login screen appears with the "normal" mouse cursor.

Default PCBSD9.1-RC1--64 and frozen mouse
So, when the GUI loads, the mouse dies? Even after 10 seconds or so, the
mouse doesn't come back online?

OK, I just tried this again with the very latest release candidate live USB 64 bit versions of PC-BSD and GhostBSD, and no mater how long I wait with either of them my HP optical mouse never comes to life.

I ran 'lsusb' in Linux Mint, and it said my HP optical mouse is actually made by Logitec, Inc. Mine is a wired mouse, not wireless. Or alternately, perhaps Mint installed it as a Logitec mouse, whether it is or not. Regardless, it works just fine with many Linux derivations, and it worked fine with earlier versions of PC-BSD as well.

I'm not sure, but I think I may have had this, once. Maybe my problem was not the same or even not related.

I navigated the login screen with arrow keys on the keyboard, and my mouse started working when the window manager came up.

Again, maybe related or maybe not.
