Text "hides" passphrase prompt - PC-BSD Forums

Hi

With PC-BSD 9.1 Beta on an encrypted drive, the passphrase prompt at startup gets "hidden" by extra lines of output text.

I have attached a screenshot to show you this glitch. You will see that the extra lines of text about my "Microsoft mouse" appear after the passphrase prompt. If - on other computers - more text appears after the passphrase prompt, the user would think that PC-BSD has frozen, because it's tricky to find the passphrase prompt hidden amongst many lines of text.

This is a known issue in FreeBSD at the moment. Usually its because of
USB messages being printed after the password prompt. I'll bring this up
again with some devs, see if there is a solution in the works.

This problem will also occur, every time, the user selects verbose logging.

This behaviour is also occurring on 9.1-RC2. Attached is a photo showing it on my Samsung netbook, which has PC-BSD 9.1-RC2 installed.

This glitch can really confuse people. Users may think the computer has frozen during bootup, when lines of text "hide" the passphrase prompt!

Hope to have this bug fixed.
