Default OpenJDK7?
Hi,

OpenJDK7 has been out for over a year now. Any plans to include it in PC-BSD?

I noticed it in ports but I can't seem to get it to work the last time I tried.

Anyway, it would be very nice if I could get it in PBI form. My jdk7 code fails to compile.

What? No Java love on BSD?!

I suppose I could compile it myself. Let me know if there is a simple way to turn it into a PBI, if I am successful.

OpenJDK7 PBI already provided. Check this page if you want to download it.

Fascinating. Many thanks!

Any reason why it is not on AppCafe?

The OpenJDK7 PBI has not been approved because it does not match all the features of the OpenJDK6 PBI yet (such as the java web browser plugin, etc...)
Let me know about your experiences with it and we can try to get it working properly so it can be put in the AppCafe.

Here are my findings:

My Opera browser is currently pointing to IcedTea 1.2.1 according to about : plugins which I believe is OpenJDK7.

My wife loves playing canasta on Yahoo games (she would NOT let me have PC-BSD without this) and it works good.

time.gov runs a Java applet and that works. This is how I sync my watch to the atomic time so it's very critical to me.

So far I've tried code that I compiled in OpenJDK6, jEdit, NetBeans & IntelliJ IDE and it all works great. It even looks better and runs faster!

So I'd say this one is a success.

Could someone on the repository end of things take a look at the newly available OpenJDK PBI? I'm getting an error message:

"An error occurred while installing OpenJDK Please check your network connection or mirror settings."

but(!!) only for OpenJDK 7.5.06 -- I just grabbed the Valgrind PBI and it downloaded/installed without problems.

Thanks!

Fixed it!
The meta-info for the PBI was not flagged as requiring root to install (when it does need root permissions now). It should work in the AppCafe within 24 hours.

For now, you can run "pbi_add -r openjdk" as root to perform the installation (you might need to give it the -f flag to force the installation if you already have openJDK 6 installed).

well java 7 pbi is good with the exception that web java is broken and fails to connect even though the softlink to IcedTeaPlugin.so is alive andwell.
