Default wlan0 problem... [solved]
i successfully installed and connected my laptop through the wlan0 interface to the office internet and could update with ease.

the same when i try to connect from home by adding the profile says wlan0 is not configured ? i am a newbie to bsd and have been using linux since years.

again i bring the laptop to office and i am unable to connect to the office network and the boot verbose says wlan0 link not found.

i run the dhclient wlan0 and i get the response
link not found..... giving up !

looking forward to solve this problem asap !

HI
Did you ever connect this particular Laptop through the Home WIfi Lan with another OS.
Sounds like you aren't being a Allowed a Connection.
.... Might need a Wep/WAP password or phrase.
....Perhaps the Network is MacAddress Protected and you Wifi Address must be added/allowed

Ask the question did I do either of the above to connect any Machine to the Home connection.
The PCBSD Network Manager will allow you to configure your DHCP connection Scan for a Network and add a Password to enter the Network. Look in the for it in the Menu...

from both the wi fi networks, i can connect with ease (in fact it connects automatically as it is preconfigured) i did the same thing by adding the profiles in pcbsd. still at boot time i get the message wlan0 not configured.

another interesting point is i cant re-connect with the same configuration that i had to my office network that i had previously connected and updated using the update manager in pcbsd and installing some programs through app-cafe !

may be the configuration needs to be set in some place ? in both networks i am using auto DHCP which is possible from windows as well as linux.

i am a newbie in understanding the commands and configs in pcbsd and help will be needed for this and many more glitch i might be facing !

as mentioned by you, i already have the 2 profiles configured and it shows up on every boot but wlan0 fails to identify that and the message (when hovered over the tray icon) says status : not connected, SSID "" etc etc !

currently i am messaging from linux which just connects !

i am using T500 lenovo and hardware is not a problem (touchpad is not configured as it should behave and sound is not configured till now)

thank you in advance

I am not clear via your posts.
You post that you have connected on both home and office Networks but with What OS ?
Connection via Linux on both..BSD on both..One each and which one on which.?
Also what are the Security Protocols on Each?
Is BSD connection on Either?

Take a look at this How to first...

i got it solved champ....
the problem was like this... after a fresh install, i could connect to the wifi with a breeze (whether at home or at work) when i updated and did everything that i needed, i shut down the laptop and booted on the next day and my wlan0 would not be found ! (i have a triple boot with windows and linux on the same laptop and i could connect thru the other two OS without a hitch.

SOLUTION:
i went for another fresh install, connected to the wifi. then before shutting down i opened the network manager and simply went thru the formality on wlan0 configure part and hit the save button. that did the trick !
i wonder if that was ever needed but none the less it solved my problem....

thank you for your updates.. i had followed that thread you had mentioned earlier and the kernel module loaded and installed successfully... but the reboot landed me into a prompt where i did not know how to go about it ! it was asking for a full path of the shell.
i re-installed and followed one additional step of saving it thru network manager and that seemed to have done the trick.

pcbsd is truly inviting me to dig deeper into and i ll be posting more and more questions to help me solve the problems. as of now i ve posted a thread to seek help in the sound config and the touchpad config (i am using t500 laptop) i can watch streaming videos but without sound. i tried the head phones and that seems to be working fine !

i didnt want to land me into a situation that prompts for the shell path while booting so i am waiting for an answer !

thanks again...
regards,
r v c

Happy to hear you solved it.
Solving an issue just makes one feel that much more confident on their BSD system..
