Gimp 2.8
Hello everyone, I come because I'm new to the forum, and I want to immediately apologize for my English is not my native language.
Going straight to the point I'd like it to be created on Gimp 2.8 package that I could not find.
It 'a little bit that I use PC-BSD 9.0, is not the first time I install it and I really like, although I had some problems with the same setup and management, but thanks to the Forum and some instructions, especially in Italian, I was able to move forward.

EasyPBI
There two tools that can be used to make PBI packages from a successfully installed port.
Look in the AppCafe for 'EasyPBI' if you still have the package installed. It will allow you to form a PBI from the installed package.

Sorry for not responding sooner.
Our build servers are currently facing a backlog of PBI's waiting to rebuild (thanks to the PNG library update in ports), so it will be a little while before the gimp PBI is next in line.
If you need the newer version immediately, you can follow jaxxed's suggestion and build the PBI yourself with EasyPBI (or the pbi_makeport command-line utility). You can even use our PBI module[1] if you like!

The GIMP version in the FreeBSD ports was outdated. I already add request for it in PC-BSD ports request.

I know that is almost one year how is GIMP 2.8 out but we will wait long time on it still. It looks like that just one person works on it and who knows. I am usin Linux live cd and 2.8 works fast and very good. There are some OpenBSD Live CDs too. OpenBSD has GIMP 2.8. I don't know what is wrong with FreeBSD.

I have been seeing a lot of chatter about Gimp 2.8 on the FreeBSD ports mailing list[1] as well, so there is definitely a lot of interest, but reading through the emails on the list should give you quite a bit more info. I think it basically boils down to the notice that it will be updated when all the rest of the GNOME stuff is updated, and that is taking a lot longer than it needs to be due to some issues with the testing equipment.

(This starts near the beginning of the conversation, just click the "Next message" button at the bottom to proceed through it, a lot of good info near the end)

I trid just compiling GIMP 2.8 and it was a pain, there are dependencies to wafe through and it is not for the faint of heart. Did eventually get GIMP 2.8 up and running and it's good, but there aren't many features there that are missingfrom 2.6. Unless you really need the single-window feature there isn't any rush.

Why is difficult compiling? FreeBSD wait to long for updating ports and when decided for update than you have 5000 ports for update. And every year is the same (after release came out);.
