Question Offline install of PC-BSD?
Hello, I have no internet connection at home and am using this from a public computer with windows.

I have windows 7 and puppy linux on my home computer, 1.8 ghz cpu, 1gb ram, 180gb hd, 1gb video card and no internet connection.

I tried ubuntu but since i have no internet connection, i have problems with all the deps.

Will this PBI pkg mangement system be good for my needs?

I can dl pkgs from the public computer and bring them on a usb drive to my home computer without having dl 2000000 different pkg deps?

that is why i was using windows because i can use an installer offline, without internet.

Also i can't find a wine 64 bit package, do i use 32 bit, will it work on a 64 bit system, can you run 16 bit windows apps in 64 wine? (i have a few windows apps that work in wine and i need 2 use them)

That is why i'm using windows, because i can just dl an app and install it offline, but i would like 2 use a linux/unix system, just without dependency hell.

thanks,

Zeph3r

Default Offline install of PC-BSD
Yes, you should be able to do that. You'll just need to grab the PBI you
want from a mirror server, and then copy that single file over to USB
for transit to your offline system

As from my understanding the app cafe only work with an internet connection. I too, do not have internet access at my PC-BSD computer (home). Right now it's pretty useless, amarok and xmbc don't even launch for some reason. I have yet to find any PBIs for 9 x64 though and try them. My main concerns are Blender and Mypaint, as I will be using it for my animation work.

The previous poster is the person who devised the system and maintains it. If he says you should be able to transfer PBI's and install them, then there must be something else wrong if it is not working for you. If you are having problems, then it might be worth investigating the actual cause.

The software browser functionality obviously isn't going to work without
being able to update from the internet, however there is nothing
stopping you from downloading a PBI file, and moving it over via USB /
CD and installing offline. You can install with "pbi_add <file>" or by
double-clicking the PBI in your DE, and that doesn't require a internet
connection.

Awesome, I stand corrected! Glad to know that works, but I managed to drag my box to a friends house and hook up to the internet.

Is that the only mirror? The PBI I specifically looked at is out of date. http://mirrors.isc.org/pub/pcbsd/PBI...blender/9/x64/
