Skype (ports) permission denied.
So, first off, I'd like to thank the PC-BSD team for the hard work that they do, and introduce myself. I have used linux for about 6 years starting with Red Hat 5, and OS X for about 3 years. Just recently I decided to try out PCBSD on the wifes old laptop (COMPAQ presario M2000), and I've got to say, this was much easier than the previous install I attempted with FREEBSD. I don't know if that is due to a recent change with FreeBSD or with the user friendliness of PCBSD.
After the initial install, I decided to install skype. First I tried the PBI, which I have used to install other apps with much ease and appreciation, but the PBI was a dud. Which is to say that it wouldn't open on initial or subsequent downloads. So after a bit of reading, I decided to try the port install and stick with ports for the rest of my installs (no mixing with packages). So I zoomed over to runports (root) and did the install via make install clean. Everything appeared fine except that the icon for skype didn't show properly in the KDE menu.
Upon app launch, skype disappears. Okay, what would I do on OS X? launch via terminal of course, and low and behold, permission denied. Okay, again back to OS X knowledge, sudo skype. Enter password, and somehow I am not in the todoers list (what is this list? I've never heard of this).
So I am asking what I should do now (chmod?) and in the future, should I be running runports as user vice root? (Is that even possible?)?
Also couple side questions, the touch pad on this laptop has one of those scroll areas that annoy the ever living you know what out of me. Any way to disable that scroll function? Also, I started this adventure out with 7.1RC1, and the system update tool says that I am all uptodate, but 7.1 is officially out and my system still says 7.1 RC1, anything special that I need to do?
Thanks in advance,
Wesley
