Options for SATA optical drives
Hi everyone.
I own three SATA optical drives, and all three of them have proved to be next to useless under FreeBSD, a fact that appears to be well documented. What is interesting is that I have used one of them with NetBSD-4.0 and k3b with fair success.
Recently I built a FreeBSD7.1 installation from ports, and was able to burn disks on k3b, but got heaps of errors back, and was unable to verify them.I now have that same box on PC-BSD-7.02, and am getting similar results. Is the problem to do with atapicam?
The problem is I have a motherboard which has no provision for IDE drives, and instead has only SATA. As I see it the only option I have is to install a PCI IDE controller card, and buy an IDE drive. How does PC-BSD go with these cards, and if supported what criteria should I use when buying one?
Any advice would be much appreciated.
