Default Audigy 2ZS...
Hi, after installing PC-BSD 7.8, I am not sure if my PCMCIA Audigy 2ZS was detected, and would like to get it configured correctly. Is there any way to check this / fix this? I know of the emu10k drivers, but I am not sure if they work with notebooks? Thanks.

allmost certainly, the PCMCIA version of the Audigy 2 is not EMU10k.

Try the card with a Ubuntu 6.06 live cd, if it doesnt work with that, then there is no unix support for the card.

The emu10k1 driver is crap if you ask me. I have no idea if the emu10kx driver works for PC Cards but it works for the desktop ones.

Great idea John live cd's are great for testing peoples hardware. I use Knoppix my self.

The old way is to fetch the system sources and compile the port, and remove the entry in /boot/loader.conf to load the k1 driver.

The PCBSD way is to download the emu10kx drivers PBI, install it, check out the /boot/loader.conf file. Reboot and see if it works.

As far as I know, if both the standard and kx drivers don't work the cards probably not going to work without some hacking around.

/boot/loader.conf should look something like this:
splash_pcx_load="YES"
bitmap_load="YES"
bitmap_name="/boot/loading-screen.pcx"
linux_load="YES"
hw.pci.allow_unsupported_io_range="1"
hw.ata.atapi_dma="1"
autoboot_delay="2"
snd_load="YES"
snd_emu10k1_load="NO"
snd_emu10kx_load="YES"
