Default why PC-BSD instead of FreeBSD ??
I'm curious to hear why I should install PC-BSD instead of FreeBSD. I would be interested to hear about advantages of one over the other.

Greetings,

Pi*

If your smart enough to even work out how to get FreeBSD installed in the first place, it leaves you dumped at a black screen with a cursor to type with. From there, you're on your own : )

PC-BSD has taken the next few hours of banging your head against a terminal window and dozens of pages of documentation away.

Thats the BIG one, but there are many other conveniences in PC-BSD land.

sblevin is absolutely correct. PC-BSD is intended to help get a desktop running FreeBSD 5.4 with the KDE environment running. Eventually, I expect that maintence issues will be addressed as well.

If you are comfortable enough with FreeBSD to install a desktop from scratch, please do go ahead. That's what I have done. If you would like assistance, then install PC-BSD.
