Matty,

You provided NO information about what you are running warden on so no one can give you an answer.

Code:
What OS? [uname -a]
What Warden? [warden]
What filesys? [mount] and/or [zpool list]
What cfg? [cat /usr/local/etc/warden.conf]
... would be nice for starters.

Ok i3luefire,

I cannot be sure but... in part of the results you listed below:

Quote:
[i3luefire@pcbsd-717] ~% warden
Warden version 1.3

edit:
this is the output from the warden window
Your prompt is: "[i3luefire@pcbsd-717] ~%" which makes me believe you ran the warden command as a regular user (i3luefire) and not as (root).

If that is the case then it is likely that the user you ran warden as did not have privileges to create the file system. Looks like it downloaded successfully but could not create a place to unpack what it download.

You need to: su - root
... BEFORE you run the warden command.

At any time you can type the command: id
... to see who you are before you run a command.

eg:
Code:
root@dell0:/root # id
uid=0(root) gid=0(wheel) groups=0(wheel),5(operator)

root@dell0:/root # warden create test2jail --ipv4 10.2.3.4 --src --vanilla
Building new Jail... Please wait...
cp: /usr/local/sbin/pbi*: No such file or directory
chmod: /jpool/jails/test2jail/usr/local/sbin/pbi*: No such file or directory
cp: /usr/local/etc/rc.d/pbid: No such file or directory
Success!
Jail created at /jpool/jails/test2jail
root@dell0:/root #
I kinda think ALL of you ran the warden command when you were NOT the root user on the system.

Sorry I ran the warden cmd from the terminal just to get the output of the version number. when i was making the jail i had ran warden from the PCBSD Control Panel icon and i was prompted for and was able to enter my root password before the warden gui came up. also later after i posted here i tried to create a linux jail in the warden gui and it successfully created the jail but was not able to start the jail. i have since rebooted and went through the same process to open the warden gui and then tried to start the linux jail again and it still would not start.

Are you on the rolling release? I just pushed out a new set of package updates in the past few days which has a number of fixes for warden creating jails.

Yes I am on a the rolling release. But I haven't checked for any updates since Saturday I think. So when I get home tonight I will check out the updates to see if that fixed my problem. Thank you.

Default Fixed
updated with
"pkg update -f ; pkg upgrade"
http://pastebin.com/kek8395a
also had to run
"pkg delete -f a2ps-a4-4.13b_4"
because of some conflicts
http://pastebin.com/dB1zCNzK
then re-run the
"pkg upgrade"
but that may not be needed on every system.
