Default nvidia driver not installing
I was using pcbsd 9.1, tried to update to the pkgng. get errors about the nvidia and linux-f10-dri-7.2_1 not registering after running pkgng. Also after updating to pkgng all of my system packages disappeared from the pcbsd system configuration menu. So I reinstalled with the rolling release, hoping that with the packages now base around the pkgng, that this would clear up. unfortunately I get an error when trying to install the nvidia drivers from the system configuration manager, and if I try pkg install nvidia-driver then i get this error:

WARNING: locally installed linux-f10-dri-7.2_1 conflicts on /compat/linux/usr/lib/libGL.so.1 with:
- nvidia-driver-304.64

I believe it has to do with registering in the pkgng database.

So I try installing with the freebsd instructions using make install and get this error:

"/usr/share/mk/bsd.kmod.mk", line 12: "can't find kernel source tree"
*** [all] Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/x11/nvidia-driver/work/NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86_64-310.32.
*** [do-build] Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/x11/nvidia-driver.
*** [install] Error code 1

Stop in /usr/ports/x11/nvidia-driver.

Any ideas on how to get this installed?
Thanks

That second error about missing kernel source tree can be fixed by running "portsnap fetch extract". We'll look into the pkgng error.

Just before I tried make install clean I had ran portsnap fetch extract. I tried again after your post, I ran portsnap update, port tree is alread up to date, tried to reinstall with same error. also tried

pc-metapkgmanager add NVIDIA

with the same error as pkg install.

Default nvidia driver not installing
The nvidia error will be fixed shortly, uploading a new set of packages
with fixed dependancies now. You can manually remove the
linux-f10-dri-7.2_1 package though to fix it in the meantime.

Default nvidia driver not installing
The repo will update automatically any time you run "pkg upgrade" or
pc-metapkgmanager. I'm uploading new files right now, give it 24~ hours
or so and you should see a bunch of new packages to update.

Turns out I may have the wrong version of source.
http://www.mavetju.org/mail/view_thr...848&thread=yes
I used subversion to get the source from freebsd, because after using system manager to download source,
It wasn't recognized. Any ideas if this could be the problem and how to get the correct source?
I'm on PC-BSD 9.1 rolling release.

#uname -a
FreeBSD pcbsd-6564 9.1-RELEASE FreeBSD 9.1-RELEASE #0: Tue Jan 29 15:02:50 EST 2013
root@avenger:/usr/obj/pcbsd-build64/fbsd-source/src-patched/sys/GENERIC amd64

Ok, I tried the closed driver from nvidia and after figuring out how to get the source,
I get this error:

===> src (install)
"/sys/conf/kmod.mk", line 76: Could not find bsd.compiler.mk
"/sys/conf/kmod.mk", line 112: Malformed conditional (${COMPILER_TYPE} != "clang")
"/sys/conf/kmod.mk", line 116: if-less endif
"/sys/conf/kern.mk", line 18: Malformed conditional (${COMPILER_TYPE} == "clang")
"/sys/conf/kern.mk", line 33: if-less endif
"/sys/conf/kern.mk", line 103: Malformed conditional (${COMPILER_TYPE} == "clang")
"/sys/conf/kern.mk", line 109: if-less endif
make: fatal errors encountered -- cannot continue
*** [realinstall] Error code 1

Stop in /usr/home/cdelaney/Downloads/NVIDIA-FreeBSD-x86_64-310.32.

Which is the same error I get when try to install from the ports.

To install nvidia driver:
open terminal pkg remove linux-f10-dri-2.7-1
then pc-metapkgmanager add NVIDIA
start x after invoking nvidia-utils OR change Display settings in control panel and reboot

Hope you get it this time.
