Default AppCafe Skype won't start
Hi,

I am having trouble installing Skype from AppCafe, on PC-BSD 9.0, 32 bit.

Skype shows as installed, but when clicked it doesn't run.

Any pointers, please?

Much appreciated,

Sasha

Edit: I have tried installing Skype using pbi_add -r skype. Same results. When I run /usr/local/bin/skype I get the following output:

(bash-sasha@pcbsd-5140)~ $: skype &
[1] 63069
(bash-sasha@pcbsd-5140)~ $: ERROR: ld.so: object '/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so' from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloaded: ignored.
/usr/pbi/skype-i386/share/skype/skype: error while loading shared libraries: /usr/pbi/skype-i386/lib/libSM.so.6: ELF file OS ABI invalid

[1]+ Exit 127 skype

Does this help?

Thanks, Sasha

I hope that this thread generates discussion. I have not had the skype pbi work in ages, and I find the alternatives unstable (android crashes all the time)

I get a similar error, that seems to be related to the linux compat layer (perhaps through the 32 compat layer)

Unhappy Sound/Mic and Skype
I am running PC-BSD 9.1 RC-3 and when trying to run Skype Beta 2.1.0.81, I am able to get instant messages and notifications, but unable to make calls and even configure the webcam.

I also tried to run ALSA Utilities, and all I see is that the program starts, and quits automatically. I have de-installed and re-installed both programs using AppCafe, but nothing seems to do the trick.

Since I am very new to PC-BSD and have no experience with *nix-like systems, any help will be highly appreciated.
