CPU Fan control Asus k8v-mx

My system is comprised of:
Asus k8v-mx motherboard (all in one)
Sempron 3100+
1GB memory
HD,DVD burner and FD.

I just installed PCBSD 1.4 and it runs great! I was really impressed that everything was detected and seems to run right out of the box - even on this budget mobo.

It seems to install cpufreq - but my cpu fan speed stays at about 2900 rpm (which I am guessing is close to full speed).
CPU temp is ~25C - very cool.
MB temp is only 31C - pretty cool too in a 21C room.
MB supports Cool 'n Quiet as does the CPU (this is the lowest version of Sempron which does that)
CPU supports AMD64 but I am running it as i386.

APM is turned off in BIOS - should I turn it on? or will that conflict with ACPI?

Ideas? Have I missed something.
