Default Accessing Windows Partition (NTFS)
I have just recently moved to PCBSD, and must say everything so far seems to be working as it should. The installation went easy, but decided to switch to XFCE, as this is something I have used before, with linux, and KDE just seems sluggish.

Anyway to the question, I have searched the forum for a similar question, without success, so forgive me if it is obvious or been repeated before. Is it possible to get access to my Windows Partition, formatted as NTFS file system, from within PCBSD, as I want to get access to my photos, videos and documents.

On the desktop I can see the icon for Windows, and when I hover the mouse over the top of it, it says "Removable not Mounted Yet". Now if I right click this icon and try to open it or mount it, nothing happens and the message stays the same.

If I go to File Manager and click on the windows disk it says "Failed to Mount WINDOWS - You are not supposed to show G_IO_ERROR_FAILED_HANDLED in the UI." I get this same message if I try and mount it in File Manager as well.

I hope you can assist me with this, I am new to Bsd, so try and keep instructions simple.

Thanks in advance, for any help.

Hello..

The short answer is that yes, NTFS filesystems can be mounted, used, accessed by PC-BSD. Your specific difficulty is due to a deficiency in Thunar which is the default file manager for XFCE. The suggested replacements are pcmanfm or emelfm2 which can be installed as PBI files via AppCafe®. As for a non-GUI solution, I believe that capability has always been there but it is slightly less new user friendly. I personally prefer dolphin, but that is part of KDE and I am uncertain what the minimal install (of KDE) would be that includes it. The source for this info is at this files and file sharing wiki page.
