(PCBSD9.0 x64) EXITERROR: ERROR: Failed extracting the tar image :confused:

Hello all

I am trying to install PCBSD 9.0 Release x64 on the second HDD of my system. Everything seem to go well until the point where it needs to extract the images to the respective partitions, and then it gives the error. Full log can be seen at http://pastebin.com/EiQ5F1iT

I have tried different partitioning options, double checked the iso image's MD5, checked the DVD for possible data corruption (seems to be working OK), and interestingly, as soon as the installer gives that error, most of the pseudo mounts are gone (nothing in /mnt ) from that system..

Any suggestions / pointers are most welcome.

Further to my original post, I tried creating a new disc and tried that as well, on a different PC (just to be sure that the disc was not at fault). same result, indicating something is going wrong with the x64 install. Could someone please confirm or shed some light on what more to check?

Did you use the same disk layout both times? I'll have to try and
duplicate with your disk setup here, see if I can identify what is
causing this failure. It may be because the ZFS mountpoint for "/" isn't
getting mounted, but usually that'll be detected earlier in the process.

Thank you for your post and sorry for the late response, had been away.

To answer your question, I used different sizes, but one common theme in all of them are
first UFS partition as /boot
second swap partition
third zfs partition to hold /, /usr, /var, /tmp, /home

I did not put all of them together, but used the ADD button to add them to the layout individually.

Today if I can manage some time, I intend to try it with a different layout (/tmp outside the zfs) and see how it goes. Will update the post if I get the chance to try it out.

I tried the default installation and it seem to have gone well. However, the encrypted zfs is still not going through -- which I am trying to have since I cannot encrypt individual partitions as I would prefer to have encryption.

Any suggestions / pointers are highly appreciated.

As stated earlier, I am stuck with the requirement of encryption. I am not sure if this needs to go to any particular maintainer, but the scenerio is

this is the second HDD of a new i5 Dell PC
I am trying to create a small /boot, swap, /tmp and the remaining things in an encrypted ZFS partition (/, /usr, /var, /home), and the system in unable to install. Given the fact that PCBSD has no provision to manually run the steps (as opposed to following the GUI), I am not sure how to diagnose further or how to circumvent the problem.

Any pointer/suggestion/direction (apart form suggesting that I should forget encryption or ZFS) is highly appreciated.
