Plans to support pkgng?
I ran 'pkg2ng' on my system; worked, but then System Manager shows no packages installed. I'm using ZFS and learning beadm, so I just rolled back to the snapshot I took before doing this.
Will pkgng be supported by PC-BSD, or will I have to hack System Manager and replace all 'pkg_install' w/ 'pkg install' and such myself? |
Plans to support pkgng?
I've been working on moving us to full pkgng support for the past 2
months now and are getting close to having something workable for testing. It should be fully supported by the next update to PC-BSD in a few months, if you can wait that long :) |
Cool. By then I'll probably just be figuring out how to get PC-BSD installed the way I want, so yeah I can wait. By that I mean, I want to install to two ZFS pools (done), and have the result remain compatible with beadm (not done, I don't get why tank0/ROOT/default, /usr, and /var mount to /tmp not /).

Right now pkgng doesn't even work on FreeBSD. Well, the software works fine, but there arent' any binary packages in the repository so having pkgng doesn't do the user any good.
|
For FreeBSD you can consider setting up your own pkgng repo with ports-mgmt/poudriere. It's really not that hard and works quite well. Currently I have 2 servers (and 20 jails) running with pkgng.
