Hi - downloaded the ISO file and burnt to CD but when I restart my PC it won't boot from the disc (set to boot from CD first so it's not that). When I explore the folders & files on the burnt CD they look fine. Any suggestions?

I have exactly the same problem. Have tried it in 3 computers and even gone as far as disabling the hard drive on boot, but no luck. Gives the impression that the CD is not bootable. Have tried with both 0.8 and 0.8.1, any suggestions would be gratefully received!

Hrm.. sounds very much like a problem setting in your BIOS, or incompatible hardware. Some of the older machines don't actually support bootable CD's properly.
Can you boot from other machines Ok? Did you md5 the iso you downloaded to make sure you got it all?

MD5 Results: -
F:\My Downloads\Unix\FreeBSD>md5sum PCBSD-0.8.1-x86-LANG1.iso
fc6eca9fe85fbce3bafabc93b3ef7be4 *PCBSD-0.8.1-x86-LANG1.iso
F:\My Downloads\Unix\FreeBSD>md5sum PCBSD-0.8-x86-LANG1.iso
c2dad345d38e73436cc4947aab993ff8 *PCBSD-0.8-x86-LANG1.iso
I can tell the MD5 is correct for the PCBSD-0.8-x86-LANG1.iso, but have nothing to compare the MD5 for the PCBSD-0.8.1-x86-LANG1.iso
Machine boots to WinXP install CD and Kubuntu Linux install CD. However, with the PC-BSD install CD it boots straight to the existing Solaris grub boot loader. This is not an older machine, running latest BIOS on ASUS A7V8X-X motherboard and Sony CRX230ED CD-RW drive. I am stumped!

Have you tried burning another cd? Something may have gone wrong during the burn process or the cd may have been faulty.

 Apologies to all - bit of a problem with CD burning process (set to test only from a previous hiccup)
 Moral of the story, don't jump to conclusions and blank CD's aren't bootable!
 PC-BSD happily installing away now!

I've now burnt the ISO to disc 4 times, and it still won't boot. Never had this problem with other Linux distros I've tried...
