I have noticed that when I insert a music cd that it slows down the system to a crawl. I can not move the mouse or do any thing else for a while and it does this through out the operation of reading the cd as well. If I scroll to see the music it also takes a long time and locks up on me. I have a SATA drive but since the system installs properly it should not have this issue. I know that desktopbsd does not have this problem and not sure why pc-bsd 1.5 does. I could not use the previous versions because of my SATA cd drive and now this latest version works but not well in this area.

Hmm funky.

I know my XP machine locks up for about 5 seconds when ever I insert a CD-ROM (which is annoying) but I've never had a problem but havn't tried since PC-BSD 1.4.1.1.

And I was doing a lot of crap while ripping a Music CD through kaudiocreator on my laptop without issue other then the overhead of encoding tracks to Ogg Vorbis of course.

This was not a problem with DesktopBSD 1.6 or Mandriva. I insert the disc and it does not even ask what to do. It just locks up and then will unlock for a bit. I was able to rip the music as I started the k3b application and then was able to do what I wanted to do but since it never locked up in any other version I tried I decided to report it.

Could be a problem with HAL, DesktopBSD doesn't use HAL. HAL probes the inserted media, so it could maybe render a bug. Mandriva uses HAL but it's maybe a different configuration, last not least it performs better in Linux than FreeBSD.
