Since I can't get my NICs working with the current version of PC-BSD, I've decided to do something else. First of all, when is PC-BSD 2.0 coming out? I heard sometime in 2009... if that's the case, it's too long (I want to run *BSD on my laptop now now now!! :) ).

I am thinking of installing FreeBSD 7 (when it comes out soon), because apparently it will have Marvell chipset support. I figure I will install X, KDE, and CompizFusion manually. My question is this. Is it possible to install PBI installer on a setup like this so that it will act like a PC-BSD system?

Of course, when 2.0 comes out, I'm going to be installing it on my laptop for sure.

in the roadmap (http://trac.pcbsd.org/roadmap) you can see status, for the next versions.

You should be able to compile the source from the PC-BSD Trac site:

http://trac.pcbsd.org/browser/pbibuild

I'm not sure how much work it would be...you would need to check the code to make sure that it is installing against FreeBSD 7 (or whatever) and not PC-BSD 1.4.1.

Hmm... yeah. Sounds like it. I think I'll try it out. I just gotta wait for FreeBSD 7.

Why wait? I'm not certain that the remaining with the RC are enough to dissuade a desktop user.
