I am using a version of pcbsd I d/l about a month ago, on a amd1800/256MB system.

Anyway, when I am in Konquorer and on the net, and on a form that I am trying to fill out, my keystrokes take a *long* time before they display. For example, when I would type a word, it would take a minute or so before it showed up on the form. Otherwise, Konqueror is fine.

No other app has any performance issue of this nature.

Anyone know how to fix this?

Best Regards,
Steve.

Steve, I think your problem may lie here: 256MB - Does your HDD led lits all the time? Do you have many applications open at the same time?

I felt that before on conqueror but i find it strange that the problem would be memory related. The fact that the problem doesnt occur in firefox should discard that option. It's a bug somewere i am sure. Strangely, this issue was discussed today on Desktopbsd forums. I posted there saying i had felt that on PC-BSD before but i forgot i started using firefox since then. I said i thought the bug had been squashed but it may still be here after all...

Hi, I saw your post in dbsd.

I would really like to use Konqueror for www!

Weeks ago, I first encountered it on dbsd, where I posted it. No one could help there. (512MB Ram)

A week(s) ago, I installed pcbsd and had same problem. That is why I am asking here. (256MB ram)

A search through freebsd mailing list archives showed barely a hint at a problem. The one item, IIRC, mentioned a spell checker, running in the background, that might have been slowing keyboard response. This seems n/a.

As I said before, there is not a hint of a performance issue with any other app, except konqueror on the net. Based on review of top, my box is barely ticking over under kde: no swap use, lots of free memory, processes hardly taxing the box.

As I am sitting here on XP IE entering this post, I notice that the yellow emoticon icons to the left of the reply entry box are cycling through and flashing. At the same time, my cursor is flashing while that is happening. Is it possible that Konqueror under pcbsd and dbsd are unable to handle this? Just a thought. Will test on KDE tonight.

You all take it easy.
Steve.

You could well be right about Konq. I have got into the habit of using it as my browser while using Kanotix 2005-02 where there has never been a keystroke problem. Could there be a problem with the Bsd version of Konq. I will reload my desktopbsd and PCBSD and try the forums with Firefox.

well, i am sure the bug wasn't here on the first pc-bsd releases. If i recall correctly, neither 0.75 or 0.76 releases had this problem. It might have appeared when the latest version of KDE was introduced on 0.78...

Just loaded PCBSD 0.78 onto my Athlon64 3000 with 1GB memory and there do not appear to be any problems using Konq as the web browser on this computer.

This reply typed on PCBSD, Konq as web browser.

Added this after preview, still no problems with typing speeds.
