Hi,

I just installed PC-BSD on my gateway laptop mx8525. When I tried to set up the graphics card, none of the drivers worked except vesa. I have a ATI Radeon x700 on my laptop, but the ati driver did not work for it.

I really would like my resolution back to 1400x900, which is what I had when xp was installed on my laptop.

Can some please advise on how to achieve this with PC-BSD.

Thanks,
John

I solved this today. It was pretty easy, but took lots of time because it was by trial and error. I hope this post will be useful to someone else, so you will not have to waste days trying to solve something this simple.

First of all the PCBSD Install did not recognize my graphics card, ATI Radeon x700. So at the end of the install when you configure your screen resolution;

1) accept the vesa driver if no other drivers work for your card.
2) select the screen resolution you want.
3) click on advanced tab, then increase the vertical refresh rate to 75.0 - 76.0.

Then click apply and accept the settings if the screen looks okay at that resolution.

Finished!
