I had a hard time installing PCBSD 1.4. I could choose my language and timezone ok. When I got to the screen to setup root password and add users, I couldn't type. I would press a keyboard key to type, and the key would repeat as if the key was stuck or it wouldn't type at all. It is a ps2 keyboard. I retried intallation many times and tried choosing different languages, but same issue. I tried a different ps2 keyboard, and same issue. Same install disk worked on a differnet computer, just not this "HP Pavilion Slimline s7627c". On a hunch, I removed my ps2 mouse, and plugged in a USB mouse and tried to install again. Same issue. I tried again with no mouse plugged in. I was able to complete the install as long as no mouse is plugged in.

After more experimenting, I find that I can not boot into PCBSD if I have a mouse plugged in. I can unplug the mouse, allow it to boot, and completely log in with no mouse ok. Once I'm completely logged in, I can plug in the mouse and work normally with no apparent problems.

Help?

You've probably already got this figured out, but several of us on the board had similar problems on new computers with wireless keyboards. We found that we could do the install with USB keyboard and mouse, then after installation the original wireless keyboard and mouse worked fine. I could not get a PS2 keyboard to work either. Only a USB. One of the gurus opined that maybe there was a line of code missing or different on the installation iso file that was ok in the installed OS. Sounds reasonable.
