New user here with casual Linux experience trying to give a new life to an old PIII box...

I want to have desktop running at 1280x1024 but every time I select 'nv' driver, resolution reverts to 1024x768. I'm able to run 1280x1024 in VESA. It is 16MB AGP card. Am I using the wrong nVidia driver? I've read in some other post that there is a nVidia 7174 driver but it is not on the list and is no longer available for download from a URL provided in the post. How can I bump-up my screen resolution?

Also maybe related newbie question  I'm having very slow DVD playback and I'm not sure if that's to do with running screen in VESA mode?

Thanks :D

You can find all the nVidia archived drivers here (http://www.nvidia.com/object/freebsd_archive.html) and you'll have to follow the instructions they give for installing them. Be sure you have downloaded the FreeBSD source files first or they wont compile. Yes, vesa will slow down any video viewing.
