Hello everybody,

I'm trying to install PCBSD on my Athlon 1800+ machine, but:

During installation (actually, just after splash screen) I get the following error:

Root mount failed: 5

after Mounting root from ufs:/dev/md0

Then I am dropped into some kind of manual mount mode:
Manual root fileysystem specification
<fstype>:<device> mount <device> using filesystem <fstype>
<empty line> Abort manual input
Mountroot>

Any ideas what this could be? CD player I am using for installation seems to get dedected fine, there are no other errors that I noticed, etc.

Any ideas would be greately appreciated. Thanks!

I had the exact same error. All I did differently was to change my hard disc to LBA in the BIOS instead of Auto. I reinstalled after that and voila! Works great.

I tried PCBSD 0.7.8 now (or whatever is the last version as of right now), and still no go. One difference is that I can now enter cd9660:cd0 and boot into a shell, from where I cannot do anything :)

It seems that installation program is trying to boot the system, and not perform installation. Any fresh ideas? (LBA didn't help)

Another update: I just tried FreeBSD 5.4, and it installed without any problems.
