just out of curiosity is mp3 support installed by default cause i installed xmms but it won't play my mp3 file

If you double click the .mp3 does it start playing in noatun, or can you play it with Media Player (kaboodle), both of which are built in by default? If the DO, then check the xmms options and make sure it's ussing the oss soundcard driver, or that something else in the xmms options isn't just "looking at you funny".
