Hello PC-BSD users and developers!

Is it possible to install in easy way JDK 1.5? I cannot found it in PC-BSD packages (.pbi collection). Can I use Linux installer from original Sun Microsystems download webpage? How about Eclipse or Netbeans, do You tested on PC-BSD?

Thank You for all help and special regards for scottro!

Although there isn't a package (AFAIK) for java 1.5, 1.4, which tends to work with everything has an installation helper. That is, Kris did a script which walks you through going to Sun's website and getting each binary that is necessary.

Due to some legal issue or other, FreeBSD can't make a java package for 1.4 or 1.5 (Or any others, as far as I know).

However, Kris' script does make the aggravation of a java installation far less aggravating.

The "agravation" here is that Sun is maliciously doing this. It's funny that a search of http://www.java.com reveals that Sun simply forgot to even mention that FreeBSD even exists : ) It's painfully obvious what Sun perceives a threat to be, and it's happy to make Java binaries available for Linux : )

Perhaps someone at Sun thinks it's too hard to "port" to Unix? : )
