I am thinking of installing PC-BSD on Dell Inspiron 9100. The specs are as follows:

2.8 P4 HT Intel 865PE chip set ,ATI Mobility Radeon 9700

Bluetooth, Dell True mobile Wireless LAN adapter, generic Modem. Unfortunately I do not know the model of the onboard copper LAN adapter.

Can anyone tell me what Hardware/driver support problems I might have before I wipe out my current XP MC install and start over?

http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.4R/hardware-i386.html -- is the list of supported hardware. You might consider a second hd and put the XP hd on the shelf while you are learning. I have done this with my older Dell Latitude. It is much faster and safer than backup and restore. I sure you always keep a cd with at least your data.

if you know service tag of your inspiron you can see a list of your hardware at dell's support page

personally i did it for to learn my eth adapter(i have an optiplex gx240)

but nearly half of the dell systems use 3com as eth adapters
