Hi, I just recently switched to pcbsd, the latest release. The install went fine on my Dell Inspiron 1000 laptop. My previous OS is Linux, but I had been having issues. I plan to install pcbsd to my family computer as well. However, today when I booted up my laptop it froze at the starting screen. So, my question is, how can I see the kernel booting, so I can pinpoint where its stuck? Also, once I get that issue out of the way, how can I get my linksys wireless card working? Can I install ndiswrapper? Thanks for the help. -Chris

Well, I figured out how to see the kernel booting. You just press enter over and over again when the loading screen comes up. I think my freze up problem is device IRQ related. Whenever I plug my network cable into it, it locks up. I don't know for sure if that is the problem, so some advice here would be apriciated.

What're the last few lines you see on the screen before the system locks up?

dhclient starts, and sis0 is given a ipv6 address but no ipv4 address, syslogd is started and then the freze occurs. The freze does not occur when not pluged into ethernet, but will lock when ethernet is pluged at any time unless I bring the device down first (when brought back up, of course it locks again.) Because of this problem, I have had to stop using pcbsd, the system is unusable to me without ethernet. I still want to use and learn bsd though, so I will be trying FreeBSD. If anyone knows what I can do to fix this problem, please help. I am a total newbie to bsd and I don't know how it works yet.
