Start Konqueror from xterm or Run menu:
konqueror -profile midnightcommander

You can make launch icon for desktop also.

I think the Krusader PBI (filed mistakenally under ftp) is a MC like alternative KDE file manager. If any one dislikes konqueror for some reason.

For those interested their is also a web, simple, and tabbed browsing profile and KDE Development profile in addition to midnight commander and the defualt file managment one, the konqueror profile applet thingy makes a good addition to your panel :-)
