Brand new powerspec 6650 with 1/2 GB RAM
Windows XP home on Drive 0 - 1 partition whole drive
PC-BSD on newly added Samsung Disk Drive, partition 1 5 GB
Install goes smooth. Everything looks great.
Reboot, displays loader F1 for Windows, F5 for PCBSD

I press F5, and the system freezes.

Left it over night, no change.
Reinstalled and reformatted drive 1 repeatedly, no joy.

F5 stands for second hard drive? You can't boot operating system from second hard drive with FreeBSD bootloader- use GAG instead.

http://gag.sourceforge.net/

GAG is much better to begin with, would be nice if it became an optional boot loader instead of GRUB in future releases :-)

Confirmed: F5 is the first partition on the second (new) drive.

I used boot0cfg to put a second MBR on the second drive and things went a little further MBR F5 the first drive takes you to MBR on the second drive (strange), F5 on the second drive started PC-PSD, but hung because I don't have a dump partition????

Is that the same as a swap partition? I don't remember PC-BSD asking me for one on install, but I have set them up on Mandrake before.

Is this required too?

Still hard down, no joy. + 1 month and counting....
